My Dad Refused To Get Hearing Aids, So I Bought These For Him Instead

If your parents are getting more difficult as they age trust me, you're not alone. Sometimes it can be downright difficult to help them even if it's for their own good. It's a common source of frustration for many people with aging parents and caregivers. So here's my experience with my father how I finally convinced him to get hearing aids and how it changed all our lives for the better in the end.

My old man is as stubborn as a mule. So when his hearing started to go and we suggested he get hearing aids… well you can imagine what his reaction was.

Long story short he absolutely refused to go to the Doctor. He didn’t want to wait for an appointment, he didn’t want to shell out thousands of dollars for hearing aids or navigate his complex health insurance.

But most of all what I learned is he just didn’t want to be treated like he was old. He found the whole process of being examined and critiqued to be undignified.

I left the issue alone for a while until his hearing loss started to progress more.

My mom couldn’t be in the same room as him when he was watching TV because he had the volume blasting on maximum.

He’d go entire dinners without speaking to anyone because he couldn’t hear what people were saying.

It got to the point where it felt like he was just fading into the background. So I knew I had to take things into my own hands.

Taking Matters Into My Own Hands

I knew there was no way I was getting him to go to the doctors so I immediately started researching over the counter (OTC) hearing aids.

For those of you who don’t know, you can actually get hearing aids without ever setting foot in a doctors appointment or taking a hearing test. You can just go online and order them.

There is actually quite a selection of OTC hearing aids available, but the brand I settled on to try is called Oricle. It has great reviews, tons of customers and was tied for the least expensive option at $99.

I thought, what’s the risk? They’re only $99, they have tons of good reviews and they have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee. I ordered them online and they got shipped to my door a few days later.

What's In The Box?

Oricle took 3 days from checkout to get delivered to my door. Included in the package were all the essentials:

• Left & Right Ear Hearing Aids

• Different Size Silicone Tips For Different Ear Sizes

• Charging/Carrying Case

• Universal Charging Cable

• Instruction Booklet

• Easy Cleaning Tool

They seemed easy to use right out of the box. I tried them out on myself first by fitting the appropriate sized ear tip and then popping them in my ears. After that, it was a simple one button click to turn them on. They worked great and felt comfortable!

In addition to being pretty straight forward and easy to use, I also noticed they had a very low profile design, nearly invisible in my ears when I looked at myself in the mirror. I knew this was a good thing because my dad was probably self conscious about being seen with hearing aids even though he wouldn't tell me about it.

My Dad Tried Them Out, Here's How It Went

The hardest part of this whole process was just getting my dad to try them out. He took a little convincing but I made a deal with him. If he just tried them out for 1 week and he didn't like them, I promised never to bother him about hearing aids again.

Day 1

I started off by showing him how to charge the hearing aids which was very similar to the earbuds he uses so that was easy. Then helped him select the right size tip for his ear. This took about 10 minutes and we tried them out.

The first thing I saw him do was to turn down the TV volume to about half of volume he normally watches at.

So far so good, but I was initially doubting he was going to keep using them for long.

Day 7

I met my mom and dad a week later for lunch and I was surprised to see that he was still using them! Lunch was very different than usual.

Normally my dad would just sit and stare at his food, nod along to what people were saying.

This time he was talking to all of us and joining in on the conversation. I didn't hear him say "what?" a single time either.

3 Weeks

After about 3 weeks my dad actually thanked me for convincing him to try these hearing aids. He was like a whole new person. Laughing and chatting - it felt like he was finally himself again.

The difference was so stark that it really made me realize just how complacent we had all become when he was sliding into social isolation.

It felt really good to see him like his old self again. It was like we turned the clock back 20 years.

In my work, I see patients who struggle with the isolation of hearing loss. Patients who have tried Oricle 2.0 say it has a clear sound, and is easier to hear.

Is Oricle The Right Choice For My Parents?

I chose Oricle because of the low cost, good reviews and the 30 day satisfaction guarantee but here are the main reasons I'd choose Oricle over other hearing aids:

1. They're easy to get. No Doctors involved which takes away some of the friction when convincing your parents to try.

2. Satisfaction Guarantee for 30 days. Oricle offers great support for their hearing aids.

3. Near invisible design means they’re less likely to be embarrassed about wearing them, therefore they’re more likely to give hearing aids an honest shot.

4. Comes with different size ear dome tips so you can feel confident they’ll fit.

5. Low price which means low risk. You aren’t dumping $5k into a hearing aid your parents wont use, just $99

If they like the base model, you can even upgrade to their Pro version or the even more powerful behind the ear model.

Where Can I Get Oricle?

If your parents are struggling with hearing loss and you are struggling trying to get them to do something about it I would 100% recommend Oricle. Skip the wringer of trying to run through the healthcare system and just get these instead. They're cheap, they're fast, and they actually work. You will have a much easier time convincing your parent to just try these instead of setting up tons of doctor appointments to get a prescription.

Oricle sells online on both walmart.com and Amazon but I would recommend getting them directly through their Official Website. They give you a big $50 discount plus great customer support and that satisfaction guarantee.

With demand this high, stock is limited and they sell out quickly. Follow the link below to claim a $99 Oricle while it is still available.
